Find Your Grounding, Embrace Your Freedom
JLeebre Counseling is my private practice focused on providing mental health care that is culturally humble, empowering & safe.
Though I work with any individual in California who is a good fit, I specialize in helping postpartum & new moms ground in their madrehood, heal their inna niñas & realign with what matters most to them.
My focus areas include anxiety, stress, & breaking cycles of generational trauma, though we can talk about anything that is impacting you in the madrehood rollercoaster.
Because of my own identities, I have a special focus on supporting helping professionals, Latinx/women of color, first-generation college, adult daughters of immigrants and Christian women.
My approach is supportive & trauma-informed. I utilize cognitive therapy, mindfulness, inner child work, spirituality or faith-based, skill-building & more. My approach will be tailored to your goals & preferences.
You can also find me in the following directories: Latinx Directory, PHA, Postpartum Support International, Headway & Grow Therapy

The transition into motherhood can catch many of us by surprise! Even if it’s everything we’ve ever wanted, it is still normal to have mixed emotions, anxiety, rage, guilt, and more. As a new mom and therapist who has been trained in perinatal mental health, I aim to provide you with a safe space to process all the feelings that you (and your inner niña) are experiencing. Whether that’s talking about your matrescence (the process of becoming a mother), the invisible load (all the little tasks that add up and contribute to overwhelm), mom rage, or other, I aim to create a space where you feel safe and connected. You don’t have to struggle silently so whether it’s me or another therapist, my hope is that you get connected to someone who will listen, validate, encourage and equip you with tools to get the mental health care you deserve. A mom’s mental health is ESSENTIAL for her family to be well so I hope you know you matter too!

Anxiety in early motherhood can often be overlooked & untreated (especially if it’s rooted in generational trauma). Though some worry & anxiety is a “normal” part of being a mom, certain levels of it can take us away from the present moment & cause us to parent from a place of fear & worry.
Some signs of anxiety in postpartum & new motherhood include:
overwhelmed by these feelings of fear & worry
feeling irritable or on-edge often
feeling the need to do things perfectly
fear of setting boundaries &/or asking for help
obsessing about how much milk baby is getting
weighing baby before and after feeds
difficulty sleeping & relaxing
constantly worrying you’re not doing things right
feeling paralyzed by “doom” and racing thoughts
avoiding situations for fear something will happen
physical symptoms like nausea, stomachaches, muscle tension, headaches, restlessness & more
If you connected with any of that, I want to encourage you to take a deep breath, in through your nose and out through your mouth slowly. You deserve to get support ! There are many therapeutic tools for reducing anxiety levels (including mindfulness skills, CBT, physical activity, support groups, inner child work, etc...) and I can help you create a plan that works for you.

I am a firm believer that generational trauma (aka the psychological and emotional wounds that have been passed down from one generation to the next, including impacts of racism, slavery, colonization, abuse & more), can play a huge role on current cycles of anxiety, depression, avoidance, perfectionism, people-pleasing, low self-esteem, unhealthy relationships, substance use, numbing and more. I am ALSO a huge believer in the power of cycle-breaking for this generational trauma (aka healing from and breaking unhealthy patterns that have been passed down). As a cycle-breaking momma myself, I know how beautiful it can be to create healthier patterns, not just for myself, but for my daughter. It is INCREDIBLY empowering and I would love the opportunity to help you identify what cycles you would like to break and which ones you would like to continue. I hope you feel encouraged in this journey and applaud you if you are doing the hard work of cycle-breaking! It is quite epic if I do say so myself (lol).
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I will ask you about your goals and provide a brief overview of my services. You can also ask me any questions you may have. If we're a good fit, we will confirm availability for sessions and get you scheduled. If I'm not the right fit for you, I will do my best to connect you with a resource that fits your needs.
-
During our first intake meeting, I will be asking you questions to get to know you better. The first few meetings are focused on getting a clearer understanding of your background & experiences and creating a plan to help you meet your goals. Collaboratively, we will decide how you would like sessions to look. This is YOUR time and I want to make sure your preferences are included so please let me know what works and what doesn't- I won't take it personally (lol).

Therapy is most beneficial when you are able to apply skills in between sessions and process the growth and barriers consistently. For this reason, I ask for regularly scheduled appointments that are weekly or bi-weekly, especially in the beginning. I understand life & financial barriers happen so monthly sessions are also an option. Most important is that you have a dedicated time that you are investing in your mental health. Something as simple as including this as part of your consistent routine is huge step of growth.

My availability varies but my usual working days are Wed-Thursday afternoons with some limited Friday morning availability by inquiry. All services are offered online and I can work with anyone living in California. You can email me about current availability at hello@connectwithjlee.com

My rate is $150 for 50-55 minute individual sessions and $30 for 55-60 minute group sessions. If I do not receive a cancelation within 24 hours of our meeting or if I am "no-showed" there is a session fee ($100 for individuals & $30 for groups). My fees account for my degrees, training and experience. I will send you a good faith estimate within 3 days of our intake.
I accept a limited # of insurance clients through Headway . Visit my headway profile if you would like to confirm if I am currently accepting any insurances.

There are a few reasons to opt out of using insurance:
Increased control over your services. Insurance can dictate session lengths & how long you can receive services- even if it's not in your best interest.
Increased confidentiality. Information about diagnosis or sessions does not need to be disclosed to insurance or documented on medical record.
Increased flexibility. With private pay, you don't need a mental health diagnosis to receive services so it can open up possibilities around sessions and treatment goals.
Increased transparency. Insurance coverage can get confusing around deductibles or what is covered, which could leave someone needing to pay when they were not expecting. With private pay, you know exactly what you will pay and when from the start.
Stability in provider. If your insurance were to change (e.g. job switch) you may need to switch providers, even if you got comfortable with them.
Some insurances have out of network benefits, so you can get reimbursed for most of your bill. You can ask your insurance about Out of Network benefits to confirm.

Good Faith Estimate: You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
